After a long and dark history as a leading death penalty state, 2021 marked the year that Virginia officially became the first state in the south to abolish the death penalty.
In this episode, Dale Brumfield returns to the show to talk about this historic victory and how other southern states can follow the lead.
Dale is the Executive Director for Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. Having fully accomplished their mission, the organization will soon be dissolving. As a final project, Dale is working on a book to tell the story of the Virginia Abolition Victory which may become a playbook for ending the death penalty in other Southern states.
