According to a 2013 study by the National Institutes of Health, approximately one in four adults experiences mental illness in a given year. And one in 17 live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder. In addition, approximately 20 percent of youth ages 13 to 18 experience severe mental disorders in a given year.
Amanda Long is NAMI Virginia’s Family and Youth Coordinator, and she shares more about NAMI Virginia, with a focus on programs for youth, including Youth MOVE Virginia, a grassroots network of youth and young adults who are committed to providing opportunities that support, educate, and empower other youth and young adults with mental health needs.
